Installation Guide

MixingGPT 1.0.0 · macOS 10.15 or later · Windows 10 or 11

macOS

  1. Quit your DAW. Hosts only scan for plug-ins at launch, so a DAW that's already running won't see MixingGPT until you restart it.
  2. Open the disk image. Double-click MixingGPT_MacOS_1.0.0.dmg, then double-click the .pkg inside it. If macOS blocks it, follow the steps in the amber box below.
  3. Follow the installer. AU and VST3 are both selected by default — click Customize if you only want one.
  4. Enter your administrator password. The plug-ins install into /Library, which is shared by every user on the Mac.
  5. Reopen your DAW. MixingGPT is an effect, not an instrument — insert it on a track or on the stereo output. Rescan your plug-ins if it doesn't appear.

If macOS blocks the installer

macOS blocks installers it hasn't seen before. Nothing is wrong with your download — you just need to allow it once.

macOS 15 Sequoia and later

  1. Double-click the installer. A message says macOS can't verify it — click Done.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security. You'll see a line saying MixingGPT was blocked. Click Open Anyway and confirm with Touch ID or your password.
  3. Double-click the installer again. It opens normally.

The Open Anyway button only appears for about an hour after step 1. If you don't see it, repeat step 1.

macOS 14 Sonoma and earlier

Control-click (right-click) the installer and choose Open, then Open again in the dialog. If no dialog appears, use the three steps above — on macOS 12 and earlier the path is System Preferences → Security & Privacy → General.

Manual installation (if the installer won't run)

The installer does nothing more than copy two bundles into two folders. You can do it yourself in Finder.

  1. Quit your DAW, then open MixingGPT_MacOS_1.0.0.dmg to reveal MixingGPT.component and MixingGPT.vst3.
  2. In Finder press Shift-Command-G, paste /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and press Return. Copy MixingGPT.component in there.
  3. Repeat with /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3 for MixingGPT.vst3.
  4. macOS asks for your administrator password on each copy — these folders are shared by every user on the Mac. Replace any older copy when prompted.
  5. Reopen your DAW and rescan your plug-ins.

Installing for just your own account works too: use ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/… instead, and no password is needed. To uninstall, delete the two bundles.

Windows

  1. Quit your DAW. Plug-ins are only detected at launch.
  2. Run the installer. Double-click MixingGPT_Win_1.0.0.exe and approve the Windows permission prompt.
  3. Accept the licence and follow the on-screen steps.
  4. Confirm the folder. Keep the standard VST3 location unless your setup is custom.
  5. Reopen your DAW. Rescan your plug-ins if MixingGPT doesn't appear.

If Windows SmartScreen appears

You may see “Windows protected your PC”, or a browser warning that the file is uncommonly downloaded. Windows shows this for installers it hasn't seen before — nothing is wrong with your download. Choose Keep in your browser, then More info → Run anyway in SmartScreen.
